By mixing war sequences with character portraits, this series restores the role of these soldiers and their units to their rightful place in the narrative of WW2 and reveals how these heroes inspired Civil Rights Movements in America and across the world. Idris Elba unearths the stories of three heroes of the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion. These men were part of the only all-Black combat unit to land on the Normandy beaches on D-Day, but their contribution has been almost entirely forgotten.
