From Naples’ folklore tombs and WWII shelters to England’s mysterious Royston Cave and Poland’s Wieliczka Salt Mine, the series blends myth, history and artistry. Other journeys explore Israel’s Cave of Letters, Denmark’s Neolithic dwellings, Cold War bunkers in England and Seoul, and more. Each story reveals ingenuity, resilience and mystery, proving every city conceals a hidden world waiting to be discovered. In 1924, construction crews in Washington, D.C., uncovered a labyrinth of tunnels beneath Dupont Circle. Once rumored to be part of a spy network or a Prohibition-era bootlegging route, it was ultimately traced to an entomologist who secretly excavated them. In Italy, archaeologists reveal the Tomb of Cerberus, a burial chamber sealed in volcanic rock. Decorated with mythological creatures, the tomb’s exquisite preservation suggests it was built for a powerful Roman family. In Colombia, vast underground chambers carved into volcanic rock hide burial sites. Their intricate architecture and geometric murals hint at deep spiritual and ritual meaning.
